Wellbeing in Medieval Wales - Discover the Soul of Welsh Christianity

An Exclusive Tour with the Rev. Dr. Caroline Jones

In medieval times, “well being” was closely associated with religion, ‘cleanliness is next to Godliness’ for example and this tour will perfectly illustrate this concept showing you, during your two week journey, fine examples of ancient painting, carving and fine metalwork, all associated with churches, holy sites and the development of early Christianity in the Saint David’s Diocese in south west Wales.

Spanning 1,600 years of Christianity in Wales, Caroline has meticulously identified 100 objects that tell the rich and diverse story of this ancient Diocese. Now, we invite you to join us on an exclusive journey through South Wales, led by Caroline herself.

At ‘Wales Beckons’, we believe that some opportunities are too extraordinary to miss. When we met the Reverend Dr. Caroline Jones, author of the captivating book “Time to Tell: St Davids Diocese in 100 Objects”, we knew we had found the foundation for a truly unique tour.

Tour descriptions, we are aware, can be somewhat bland, but Caroline, is such a fine raconteur that we do not want to impinge on her ability to expand on the objects and locations we have chosen for the tour.
This is more than just a tour – it’s an immersive experience. Explore St Davids, the smallest city in the UK, and its majestic 6th-century cathedral. Wander through the historic ruins of Talley Abbey and the serene Caldey Island, still home to Cistercian monks. Marvel at ancient churches and their hidden treasures, each with a story waiting to be told.
But the journey doesn’t end there. As a renowned art historian and accomplished artist, Caroline will also introduce you to the ancient art of Icon painting. During the final three days, you’ll have the rare opportunity to visit her studio and receive hands-on guidance to create your own icon of St David or his mother, St Non.
This tour is truly one-of-a-kind, offering a blend of history, art, and spirituality. Spaces are limited, and with such a unique offering, we expect high demand. Contact us today to secure your place and embark on this unforgettable journey through the heart of Welsh heritage.
